Where is the Ultrasound probe placed?

The probe is placed directly on the skin.

We can place the probe on your abdomen and observe all 4 of the abdominal core muscles, or look at the bladder and pelvic floor muscles right below the bladder and see how well the pelvic floor is supporting the bladder.
We can place the probe on your low back and watch the deep spine stabilizers and determine if they are contracting equally. Then find what movements, positions, verbal and physical cues work best for YOUR body to help make those muscle contract properly
For the women, we can place the probe on the outside of the vagina, right above the anus. For the men, we can place the probe underneath the scrotum. This gives us an excellent view of the bladder, urethra, rectum, and deep pelvic floor muscles. We can see the position of the bladder, urethra, prostate, and anus when you cough, perform a kegel, or bear down.

How do I prepare for the appointment?

If we want to look at the bladder, there is a bladder filling guideline to use to help us view the bladder better.

Void 1 hour prior to your appointment
Drink 20-24 ounces of water 30 minutes prior to appointment
Avoid voiding until we are done looking at the bladder

This guideline is recommended but not required to help us view the bladder better!
